May Dinner Update

Wow, it's a busy month for Xpressions members!  We had a wonderful P ub Night this week, full of great stories from our panel of long-time members and allies.  Many of us are looking forward to movie night next weekend, and spending much of our time getting ready for an exciting week at Spring Fling.  With all this other activity, it seems we're a little too busy for dinner on Saturday;  registration for Saturday's dinner at il Fornello, and shopping at Curvaceous Consignments was extremely low.  In fairness to our vendors, we've thus cancelled the event.

Fans of Curvaceous Consignments needn't worry, however.  Kathryn very much wants to host an event for us, so we're definitely plannig to reschedule, shopping and wine and chees for a quieter time later in the year.

Xpressions May Dinner with Friends: Shopping and Snacking in Richmond Hill

Note this month, our dinner is on a special date, May 12, to avoid any overlap with Spring Fling.

Ladies, this month we head north to Richmond Hill, but not just for dinner!  First, we're going shopping!  Our good friend, Kathryn McCallum has invited us for some shopping, wine, and cheese at her lovely plus-size consignment store, Curvaceous Consignments.  This is already a favourite haunt of many of us, but if you haven't been yet, this is a great opportunity to check out the store, and score some finds for Spring Fling!  

After shopping from 3-5 pm, we head a little further north past the 407 to il Fornello, for a casual Italian meal at 6 pm.  There's a great range of pasta, pizza, and entrees to enjoy while we compare our bargains.

May Pub Night: Sharing our Experiences

It's a busy week for Xpressions, as well as dinner on Saturday, our monthly Pub Night at the Fox and Fiddle arrives on Wednesday.  This month, we have a panel of some of the long-time members of the Toronto CD and Trans community to share their experiences over the years, and discuss how being Trans in Toronto has changed.  Participating in the panel will be:

• Cynthia Cavendish - a former Xpressions President
• Donna Wells - also a former Xpressions President and Xpressions Newsletter editor
• Paddy Aldridge - long-time ally, and proprietor of  Take a Walk on the Wildside

The panel will be moderated by Shirley.  I'm sure we'll all have some new insights into our community as we share some good food, fun, and companionship.  Hope to see you there.

Xpressions April Dinner with Friends: April in Paris at Tati Bistro!

April in Paris is a famously magical time.  Well, on Saturday, April 28, we'll have a virtual trip as we visit Tati Bistro, a lovely and lively traditional French bistro in central Toronto.  Tati is named after the famous French film director, Jacques Tati, as is run by a chef from Poitiers. They do all the classics well, escargot, duck confit, boeuf bourginon), and have created a special menu for us.

Tati is located at Spadina and Harbord in the UofT area of Toronto;  it is easily accessed either by car or TTC.  If  we have some nice spring weather, the Uof T campus is a great place for a pre or post-dinner stroll.

April Pub Night: Spring is here and it's time for a Fling!

Spring has finally arrived, and our first Pub Night of spring is this Wednesday, April 11.  We'll be looking ahead to adventures later this spring, as our good friends from Gal's Spring Fling, Amanda Ryan, and Sophia Cassivi, visit us to tell us all about their upcoming conference in Gananoque, May 22-27.  It's always an exciting week, and many of are already looking forward to hearing about the wonderful new events Amanda and Sophia are planning for 2012.  Rumor has it that the girls are also bringing some Gal's Spring Fling specials, just for Pub Night Attendees!  See you all Wenesday night (with your cheque books)!

Xpressions March Dinner with Friends - Going west for seafood at OC's in Bronte

Go west, young ladies!  Our March dinner, at 7 pm on Saturday, March 31, takes us west to Bronte Harbour in Oakville, and west coast style seafood at OC's at Stoneboats.  There's a great choice of sustainably-caught seafood, good sushi options, and plenty of choice for the non-seafood lovers among us.  If our early spring holds, we'll have an opportunity for a walk on the pier.  Hope to see you there!
